Camp Blue Spruce Caters to Kids with Allergies

The end of school is almost here! And parents are busy researching camps to sign up their kids for the summer. If you have a child with food allergies, sending your child away to summer camp can be a little scary. Camp Blue Spruce may be the perfect opportunity to provide your allergic child with a fun, “worry-free” sleepaway experience.

Camp Blue Spruce is a one-week overnight summer camp designed especially for children with food allergies. This summer, the camp will run August 18-23. The camp is located on a beautiful property near Banks, Oregon, about 30 miles from Portland.

Kids will enjoy all the usual camp activities, including swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, games, campfires and more. Parents will appreciate the fact that the camp menu is free of foods that cause more than 90 percent of allergic reactions, such as dairy, egg, nuts, seafood, soy, wheat, gluten and sesame.

The camp has a certified nutritionist and a skilled kitchen staff who prepare healthy, delicious meals that do not include any of these common allergens. Before camp begins, the kitchen, cooking utensils and dining facilities are sanitized to assure that everything is safe. Furthermore, a professional team of medical staff is on hand, 24 hours a day throughout the camp session. I am a member of the Medical Advisory Team, along with several other allergists in Oregon.

To learn more about Camp Blue Spruce, and to register your camper, visit the website.

Have a fun, safe summer!
